Аnnotation: A brief analysis of the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of a member of the editorial board of the journal “Voprosy Inzhenernoi Seismologii” (Problems of Engineering Seismology) the famous seismologist and oceanologist Aleksei Illarionovich Ivaschenko, who passed away on November 16, 2020. His name is associated with the development of seismology and research on the tsunami problem, primarily in the Far East and the Arctic region of the country. It is difficult to overestimate his contribution to the study of the strongest Shikotan 1994, Neftegorsk 1995, and a pair of Simushir earthquakes in 2006 and 2007, and the assessment of tsunami hazard in different regions of the country. For the work “General Seismic Zoning of the territory of the Russian Federation: Methodology and a Set of Maps OSR-97”, Aleksei Illarionovich Ivashchenko, as a member of the team of the main performers of the work, was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology in 2002 and was awarded the title of laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field science and technology.
