Аnnotation: The article describes the stages and results of research on the development of a maquette of General Seismic Zoning maps of the Russian Federation (RF) territory GSZ-2016. A comparison of normative GSZ-2015 maps and GSZ-2016 maps is given. The necessity of the transition to the seismic hazard mapping of the territory of the Russian Federation in the parameters of physical characteristics is shown. The world experience of using peak ground accelerations and amplitudes of reaction spectra as mapped values is considered. A brief review and comparison of existing software packages for probabilistic seismic hazard analysis is given. The issue of using empirical models of seismic wave attenuation for the calculation of GSZ maps of the territory of the Russian Federation is considered. The first results of such calculations are given. The directions of further research for the preparation of the database required to create a new generation of GSZ maps for the territory of the Russian Federation are defined.
