Аnnotation: Math models for stress analysis of buildings under seismic loads are provided. The paper focuses on a common math statement to define the stress-strain state using a method of finite elements with linear and nonlinear models. Two options of definition of parameters of the stress-strain state with the expansion in eigen vectors are provided: by integrating equations in time with the given accelerograms of a building backing structure; by the use of normative seismic spectra. Different methods for the summation of accounted building modes are proposed to evaluate the structure responses for the analyzed seismic spectra. To access forces and moments of the building interaction with pies of the backing structure and validate analytical programs buildings are modeled as angular oscillators, the simplest mechanical analogs. The described methods of analysis comply with requirements of building norms and are adapted to modern software based on the method of finite elements.
