Аnnotation: The article is written in connection with the 60th anniversary of the founding of the journal “Problems of Engineering Seismology” (ISSN: 0132-2826, eISSN: 2311-9586, http://elibrary.ru/title_about.asp?id=25597, URL: http: / /qes.ifz.ru, subscription index: 42350). The journal was founded by Sergey Vasilievich Medvedev (1910-1977), the world known specialist in the engineering seismology. He was its editor-in-chief for 20 years. In this period, the foundations of national engineering seismology were laid, and the journal played a crucial role in the development of this science. S.V. Medvedev organized thematic issues in key areas of emerging engineering seismology in the country, published in the journal the results of his own research, which for years ahead determined the further development of engineering seismology. S.V. Medvedev paid great attention to the unification of data, their acquisition and processing, he developed and published various instructions, recommendations and research programs on the pages of the journal. The article considers the contribution of S.V. Medvedev as editor-in-chief of the journal “Problems of Engineering Seismology” and his own publications on the pages of this journal in the development of such branches of engineering seismology as seismic zoning of the USSR, seismic microzoning, creating macroseismic scales, the study of seismic waves caused by explosions, the effects of seismic vibrations on structures, studies of the relationship between isoseismal lines, earthquake source depth and energy.
