Аnnotation: The history of instrumental observations in the north-west of the East European platform and seismological study of the White Sea region is presented. A characteristic of the modern seismicity of the White Sea region is presented and the strongest earthquake for the region in recent decades, which occurred on November 5, 2019, which, according to some features, can be attributed to the unique for the region, is considered in detail. The epicenter of the earthquake is located in the area of the interbasin isthmus separating the Kandalaksha and Kolvitsky grabens. The calculated focal mechanism of the source shows the faulting nature of the movement of the block along the fault, which corresponds to the modern extension of the earth's crust and the continuing de-velopment of the Kolvitsky graben.
