Аnnotation: A brief analysis of the main directions and results of seismological studies of the leading Russian geophysicist Alexei Vsevolodovich Nikolaev (1934-2019) is performed. A.V. Nikolaev is associated with the origin and development in our country of such scientific directions as nonlinear seismology, seismology of randomly inhomogeneous media, vibroseis sounding of the Earth, and some others. He introduced new terms and concepts into seismology, such as turbidity. A.V. Nikolaev repeatedly initiated and headed major scientific and research-and-production projects.
