Аnnotation: One of the determining factors characterizing the ecology of an urban area is the state of the air environment in the near-surface layer of the atmosphere. At the same time, the mesoscale characteristics of the atmosphere are determined not only by its direct pollution by gases harmful to humans, fine particles, as a result of the activities of industrial enterprises, but also, which is important in some cases, by changes in the natural regimes of geophysical fields – acoustic, electromagnetic and seismic. In order to determine the impact of large urban agglomerations on the biosphere, the Geophysical Monitoring Center of Moscow has been functioning at the IDG RAS since 2014, in which instrumental observations of geophysical fields and meteorological characteristics of the surface atmosphere are systematically carried out. The data obtained at the Center allows us to assess the nega-tive impact of the metropolis on the environment, in particular, to identify sources of disturbance of geophysical fields of technogenic origin. Taking into account the emergence of new tasks, as well as the need to expand the technical capabilities of the Center in 2021–2022, its modernization was carried out: the list of recording tools was expanded and the methods of observation and data analysis were updated. Modification of the Moscow Geophysical Monitoring Center of the IDG RAS is an important stage in the continuation of constant instrumental observations of the state of the habitat in a large urban conglomeration. The use of new modern measuring instruments makes it possible to significantly expand the capabilities of the CGM in terms of recording not only strong, but also weak disturbances of the geophysical environment. This makes it possible to set new tasks related to the control of the processes of formation of dangerous atmospheric, in particular, thunderstorm cells, and to develop new approaches to the formulation of prognostic signs of their negative consequences. Further development of the system of integrated observations of the state of the geophysical environment in Moscow is associated with the organization of observations in several branches of the CGM located around the perimeter of Moscow.
