Аnnotation: August 2018 marks the 55th anniversary of the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, signed by the Governments of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America in Moscow. It was concluded largely under the pressure of public opinion around the world, but it was made possible by the considerable success of scientists, in particular geophysicists, who were able to create effective methods for monitoring nuclear explosions.
