Аnnotation: The article discusses problematic issues of identification of results of continuous and discrete geodynamic monitoring. The definitions of basic metrological parameters – sensitivity of sensors and accuracy of measurement results – are analyzed. It is shown that the results of long-term monitoring are relative in nature and depend to a significant extent on the adopted reference system and the time moment that is taken as the initial one. It is noted that the observed jumps in small deformations recorded by tiltmeters cannot be explained by macrophysically methods, but are related to microscopic-scale phenomena. A principle of rational selection of target set-tings is proposed, which allows separating the main and secondary tasks of geodynamic monitoring and avoid-ing false interpretations in the final interpretation of observation results.
