TECTONOPHYSICAL STUDIES OF MOUNTAIN BESHTAU (STAVROPOL REGION) IN CONNECTION WITH THE DANGER OF RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATION OF UNDERGROUND WATER

Аnnotation: In the current article we examine the tectonophysical parameters of the Mount Beshtau. A number of facts indicate that the Beshtau mountain is developing according to the type of protrusive uplift, as well as the Khibiny Massif. Concentric fracturing was recorded along the periphery of the massif, which emphasizes the newest stage of development of the massif. The overwhelming number of determinations of the slickensides indicate a normal fault kinematic type. Calculation of geological stress indicators allows us to suggest the geodynamic type of extensional regime. This data leads to the conclusion that during the neotectonic stage, the Mount Beshtau undergoes an annular subsidence with general rise of the massif. In the southwestern part of the faults, confined to the “Skala” vein system, it is found strong seasonal anomaly of radon emanations, which serves as probable evidence of high permeability of the rock of the massif. The results of investigation of the territory obtained with the use of different tectonophysical methods point out a high reliability of the conclusions.
