Keywords: earthquake, seismotectonic scarps, compensation graben, paleoseismology, seismic deformations, geotectonics, paleogeography, North Karelia, White Sea, Loukhi region, Loukhi, Chupa, Keret Archipelago, stress-strain state, kinematics of ruptures.
Аnnotation: Using the example of one of the islands of the Keret Archipelago – Sidorov Island – the methodology and results of studying the consequences of strong historical earthquakes by identifying morphological disturbances of the relief are considered. The structural features of the detected seismic dislocations are analyzed in order to assess the strength, location and forecast the possibility of earthquakes occurring here in the future. Specific local destructions recorded in the territory of the Keret Archipelago indicate the need to clarify the seismic hazard assessment of this region, in the recent tectonic history of which there are a number of unclear points. According to preliminary esti-mates, in the Holocene, in the 10th–4th centuries BC, strong (M0 ≥ 6) earthquakes occurred in this territory.
