Аnnotation: The long-term experiment on electromagnetic monitoring is being carried out in Lake Baikal and in the adjacent territory. In the electric field vertical component in the water column, long-period variations are revealed, which are not caused by any internal sources, but show a close delayed relationship with slow variations in the solar X-ray emission, especially Rieger variations. The measured variations in the electric field are interpreted as variations in the current field of the Global Electric Circuit in the hydrospheric section of its closure over the Baikal Rift, which is a continuation of the total current in the atmosphere. The results are consistent with the hypothesis of the influence of solar X-ray radiation on the total current mediated by slow multistage atmospheric processes with a significant role of the convective component
